This is the most exciting part of starting your driving lessons with your driving instructor. The first time you move off is a great feeling. You want to be able to do it time and time again without a second thought, so learn exactly what should be on your mind when you do it.
Press the Clutch Fully Down (Left Pedal) This disconnects the engine from the wheels.
Select 1st Gear Use the gear stick to shift into first gear while the clutch is fully pressed.
Set the Gas Petrol car (Accelerator) Press the gas pedal (right pedal) slightly—just a little to give the engine power. Around 1,500 RPM is typical.
Find the Bite Point Slowly lift the clutch until you feel the car dip slightly or hear a change in engine sound. This is the bite point where the clutch starts to engage.
Check Mirrors and Blind Spot Look in your mirrors and over your shoulder to check for traffic. Signal if needed.
Handbrake Off (some newer cars have electric handbreak that come off on its own). Release the handbrake when you're ready to move.
Slowly Lift the Clutch Further , Keep lifting the clutch slowly while gently pressing more on the gas. Now Fully Off the Clutch, Once you're moving smoothly, take your foot off the clutch completely.
Tips Don't rush the clutch – lifting too fast can stall the car. Practice bite point control – it’s key to smooth starts. Use gentle gas – too much makes the car lurch, too little can cause stalling.
